By Tony Lea It has to be said that the weather conspired against all the fireworks displays this year, be they in Great Missenden, Chalfont St Giles or Lee Common. If anything we fared a little better as it only drizzled for most of the time!! Many thanks to all those who turned out on a miserable night but who seemed to have a good time nevertheless. It enabled us to make about £1,150 on the night, which is a great result. Once again I must express my thanks to the little band of muddy volunteers who turned up on the Wednesday morning and evening and then again on the Thursday. Huge thanks to Justin Lewis for constructing the bonfire which was still going strongly the following day and to Trevor Pearce for his help with the bonfire and then volunteering to light it. Once again Steve Humphreys displayed his pyrotechnic skills and despite the rain we all enjoyed the display. This event has become one of the regular features on the calendar and has helped enormously in raising funds for all the work carried out to the Hall and Tennis Court. A final thanks to Chris Nevill and the scouts for their help and to Barnaby Usborne who should be in line for a knighthood for the time and effort he devotes to this area. |
