By Joyce Swain The meeting of Tuesday 10th February was cancelled owing to the inclement weather. We hope to welcome all members to our next meeting on Tuesday 10th March, when there will be a talk on flower-arranging by Mrs Cundell. Open gardens herald spring - 17th May By Trish Swain After what has seemed like an endless and very gloomy winter, it’s been wonderful to see the melting snow and the hardy snowdrops underneath in full flower. There’s no doubt that spring is finally on the way with daffodil spikes, broody hens, singing birds and – last, but not least – the arrival of the appropriately named ‘Yellow Book’ produced by the National Gardens Scheme. This year the gardens of Kingswood House and 2 Kingswood Cottages will be open for the NGS on Sunday 17th May from 2 pm onwards. Further details are available via the website www.ngs.org.uk or look out for a County Leaflet at garden centres, libraries or from me on 837752. Barn Dance - 13th June By Tricia Usborne Mrs Stewart-Liberty is kindly lending her barn at Home Farm again this year for a Barn Dance. Saturday 13th June is the date for your diary. More details of this popular event will appear in next month’s Newsletter. Date change for flower show - 11th July By Anne Kenyon For the past 50 years or more the Lee Flower Show has been held on the third Saturday in July. This year it will be held on the second Saturday, 11th July – the reason being that schools are finishing for the summer holidays on Friday 17th July and therefore many families will be going away. The afternoon is a family event and we want you all to be there to join in the fun, enter the classes and come to the dance in the evening. Please make a note now – Saturday 11th July. I will be giving updates in forth-coming Newsletters as further details are arranged. |
