chinese dress Leeside Nursery
By Suzanne Beaney

Our topic for the first half of the term was ‘opposites’: the children quickly learned rough/smooth, in/out, open/close, long/short, big/little, happy/sad.
The crafts were on the same topic. The favourite one for the children was a puppet that went up and down into a cup. They all had different-coloured hair (wool), some pink or purple – one was even multi-coloured, and all had wiggly eyes.

The older group have been mixing colours e.g. red/yellow to make orange, yellow/blue to make green and for shapes they were learning that two squares make a rectangle, two triangles make a diamond etc.

We celebrated Chinese New Year again this year – dressing up, eating Chinese food and dancing the lion dance to special music. They all wanted to be the lion and took turns; they all had fun.

During the week of the snow we were closed for three days and on the Tuesday only six children braved the elements. With four adults there they had plenty of attention and ended the morning going outside and making a giant snowball.

I have bought a climbing frame which has proved to be very popular, which complements the trampoline, the slide and balance bar when it’s P.E. time.

The staff are all working to their full potential: one is working on the NVQ level 2 and one is working on a level 5, which means attending college as well as keeping up with records and observations for the nursery.
