lee common school Lee Common School
By Arabella Norton

With the recent spell of wintry weather the main  excitement of course was that the  school had to close for four days because of snow. Once  back in school, in addition girl in snow to  their normal lessons, the children were treated to a  special workshop on drumming which they greatly enjoyed. They also have had the County Music Centre visiting and giving them a wonderful guitar recital in assembly. Again this was a musical treat and something that the children enormously appreciated.

The children also had a special visit from the Police who came to give them a Road Safety Workshop. This was a very informative session which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The school enjoys a close relationship with the Community Support Police Officers as, in addition to giving their lessons on Road Safety, the Police also come to assist in walking the children to and from the Church for the various school services. The school Easter service will be held on Friday 3rd April at 9:30 am at St John the Baptist Church, the Lee.

The LCSA is holding another wonderful event and everyone is invited to the LCSA Quiz evening which is being held on 21st March at 8:00 pm. The quiz master will be Will van Rest of ITV fame and this should promise to be an evening of great wit, hilarity and excitement. Tickets (£10) include a fish and chip supper and you do not need to worry about getting a ‘table’ together as your place will be randomly allocated unless you specifically ask otherwise. Please contact Bea Buisson on 837130.

This weekend of 21st/22nd March is a busy one as the following morning, Sunday 22nd March is Mothering Sunday and there is a School Family Service. The children will be singing songs and actively participating in the service. This is at 10:00 am at St John the Baptist Church, The Lee. All are welcome.

The school wishes to thank two individuals from the village whose contributions make a huge difference to the school. Firstly, Judy Hart who kindly loaded up her horse-box with all the old stage blocks and drove them down to the Elgiva Theatre in Chesham. Judy’s support for the school is much appreciated as she comes in every Monday morning to listen to children read. Likewise if you too feel that you could make a similar weekly commitment to listen to children read please contact the school. You will need to be CRB-checked and be given training but all that will be explained to you.

The second person we have to thank is Mrs Dean, who is yet again coming in to teach the children Maypole dancing in preparation for their annual May Day celebrations, which will be held at 10:00 am on Friday 1st May. This is a wonderful occasion and everyone in the village is very welcome to come and watch and there will be various stalls selling goodies, so do come and support us.

And finally, a future date for your diary: the Annual Bluebell Walk and BBQ lunch will be held on Sunday 10th May.
