Lee Common School By Arabella Norton Lee Common School is delighted to welcome Mrs Michelle Parsons who has come to work in the office 1½ days per week. Her assistance is greatly needed as the school is getting busier and busier. Some of you may have been wondering why strangely attired people have been entering the school… all shall be revealed.
The 5th of March was World Book Day and the children and teachers all had
to dress up as their favourite characters and then explain who they were and
why they had chosen to be that person.Friday 13th March was Red Nose Day and everyone wore something red, thereby collecting over £55 for Comic Relief. That week we also had Science Day, during which the normal timetable was suspended and the whole day given over to scientific experiments. Many thanks are due to the parents who helped set up and run this day, especially Mrs Cooksey, whose potions and explosions, I am told, are worthy of Hogwarts. Some of the book characters featured are: Pippi Longstocking, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie Bucket, Robin Hood Year 2 are delighted to have been invited to take part in a Dance Festival due to take place at Dr Challoner’s High School later this month. They have been madly practising their cheerleading routines and pom-pom skills. The parents are hoping there will be a sneak pre-view when they come in for the Year 2 Class Assembly this week. Each term, each of the three classes holds an assembly to which the parents of the children in that class are invited. A huge amount of preparation goes into these assemblies which are better described as performances. Every child in the class will say something in front of the whole school and parents. The school is also delighted to announce that the Methodist Minister, Nigel Coke-Wood, will be coming in to give an assembly each half-term. The children have also had some interesting outside speakers to give assemblies. At the beginning of March they learnt all about the Blue Cross Animal Rescue Centre and were told how to look after their pets properly. Later on this month they will also be having a speaker from the charity they are supporting this term, ‘Hearing Dogs for the Deaf’. The parents are equally as busy as the children. The Year 2 parents were given a special SATS workshop by the Head, Mrs Lawes, in which she showed them sample papers, explained the marking scheme and answered questions. This was all much appreciated. The parents are also looking forward to the LCSA Quiz Night, the Mothers’ Day Service and the School Easter Service. All of these will be reported on next month. |
