By Viv Robins The freezing weather at the start of the year posed a particular problem for those elderly or otherwise vulnerable people living in The Lee who were unable to get out and about and needed help with tasks such as shopping or clearing away the snow. Most neighbours were only too happy to rise to the challenge and now Mike Senior has come up with the idea of trying to set up a permanent network of local volunteers who could be available for any such eventualities in the future. To find out more – and ideally volunteer yourself! – why not come along to the Parish Annual meeting at the Parish Hall on Tuesday 12th May? Look out for posters giving further details nearer the time. Beat the cowboys! Bucks County Council are now running an approved trader scheme called Buy with Confidence which can provide consumers with a list of local businesses that have been vetted and approved by its Trading Standards department. To find a tradesman you can trust you can log on to www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk or call 08454 040506. And if you think your business could make the grade and you would like information on taking part contact Gina Green at ggreen@buckscc.gov.uk or call 01296 383919. One to avoid Thames Valley police have received reports of a company called Highways UK Limited which has been cold-calling in the South Bucks Area offering to do groundwork, block paving etc. They are known for their hard-sell tactics and the police advice is that you do not agree to have any work done by them. PC Jim McGuinness would like to hear from anyone who comes into contact with them – in particular he needs information about vehicles they may be using, numbers and description of personnel and any flyers or business cards they may deliver. If you do have any information please call him on the police non-emergency number 0845 8505505 and say you are responding to a TV Ringmaster message (Thames Valley Police’s community messaging service). |
