cricket building work The Lee Cricket Club: a grand design
By Jon Swain

You may have noticed a little activity at Manor Park, home to your village cricket club.

Since Christmas, Jon Goldby, and a team of highly skilled builders and craftsmen, have been rebuilding our clubhouse, extending the excellent original structure, adding a pitched roof, and extensively altering the interior.

It has been a race to get ready for the new season, as we had delays in obtaining planning permission, but work commenced in the depths of winter, and not a moment has been lost since.

cricket crowd We think it will be one of the best clubhouses in the county, adding further to the progress we have made in recent years. It has been satisfying to get the work done at last. In addition to acquiring our nets (see passim) and artificial surface last year, we have had our equipment refurbished and substantial pre-season work done on the ground.

We have three players undertaking the Level 2 Coaching course, which means we can concentrate our coaching in a far more focused way, and this is already paying off; we have young players in County and District sides at six different ages.

Our winter practice sessions have been extremely well attended, with real progress being made by the youngsters. They are all bursting to get out onto the ground and demonstrate honed techniques.

Older players like me are simply bursting!

We are always on the lookout for new players and helpers (especially helpers for Friday night Kwik Cricket), so if you would like to resume a stalled career, or start now, come and join the happiest club around, and play on the loveliest ground imaginable, visit our website www.theleecc.org.uk and call us.

You will be made very welcome.
