The Lee Old Church Trust AGM
By Jon Swain

On Palm Sunday the Trust held its AGM. The officers and committee were re-elected unopposed, and the President, John Glanfield, thanked all for a successful year.

A query was raised by a member about the prospect of a donation to the Parish Church funds for the purpose of maintaining the fabric of that building. It was decided that such a complex question would need to be debated at an EGM.

After the AGM, the packed audience received a very moving talk by Mike Senior. ‘The Lee and the First World 1st bucks leaving aylesbury War’ was a masterly  summary of the background of the War, which moved to focus on the impact on this village and its families.

Even if familiar with Mike’s excellent book on the subject, No Finer Courage, one learnt much more, helped by slides that helped to evoke that desperate time nearly a century ago. As we move into the glories of Spring in this village, and enjoy all that is going on in our vibrant community, it was a reminder that we need to fight for our freedoms, and, if necessary, be prepared to make sacrifices, always hoping that it will never be that ultimate sacrifice.

We would welcome new members to the Trust; the membership fees are very modest and it is a chance to support the upkeep of The Old Church, whilst enjoying the high quality events we stage. You don’t have to be a member to attend them!

The next is ‘Tip of my Tongue’ on 10th May at 7:30 pm, an evening of poetry, words and music, performed by Gordon Cummings with Grace and Kenneth Dives.
