By Anne Kenyon May is the month when the 2009 schedules will be dropping through your letterboxes and this inspires us to think towards 11th July. As I write the weather is warm and dry (too dry!) which reminds me of the tradition that ‘old gardeners are supposed to have removed their trousers and sat on the soil to see if it was warm enough to sow’! The theme for 2009 is ‘myths and legends’ so start to think about mythical photographs – should be fun. Remember to read the rules, especially No.9 for pot plants. As always we need help with stalls, setting up, clearing up and welcome ideas for new sideshows. Tickets for the dance are the same price as last year at £18 and will be on sale from 30th May at the Shop @ The Lee Parish Hall. ‘Mojo’, a fantastic new band, will be playing. It is always a great evening so make up your tables now. I will end by quoting from The Book of Husbandry, 1550 – “Go upon the lande that is plowed, and if it synge or crye or make any noyse under the fete, thenne it is to wete to sowe. And if it make no noyse and will beare thy horses, thenne sowe in the name of God.” [That last bit played havoc with my spellchecker! You can also download the schedule from The Lee website – just go to www.thelee.org.uk and follow the link to The Flower Show – Ed] |
