cricket pavillion Cricket club
By Andy Devoy

The first weekend in May saw the first of our Colts cricket sessions on the Friday night and the beginning of the League season for the adults. There was a huge amount of work to do to get the clubhouse, and particularly the bar, ready for the first Friday session. The clubhouse was like a scene from a TV makeover program in the week leading up to 1st May with people painting, doors being hung and toilets installed. A big thank you to Pippa Hart, Hayley Farrelly and Tanya our clubhouse cleaner who worked tirelessly on the Friday to remove every trace of dust and believe me, there was a lot. The bar was well stocked, the cricket kit was dusted down and we were ready to go.

The children all enjoyed the first cricket session and it was nice to see new faces amongst the parents milling around the bar and BBQ.

The season is also underway for the older Colts playing league cricket. There was a thrilling game for the U11s who lost on the last ball of the match by one run, convincing victories for the U10s and U12s and a loss for the U15s in their first game followed by an overwhelming victory against Chalfont St Peter. This match featured the highest ever individual score by a junior player when Mat Y scored 73 not out.

There was another significant early season victory for the U13s who recorded the highest ever total by a junior team scoring 237 from 20 overs against Hawridge and Cholesbury. They then bowled out all of the opposition batsmen without one of them managing to score a run. Harry H took four wickets in one over and five in total.
The Saturday 1st XI have got off to a good start back in the top division recording a draw and a victory so far. Two players have recorded centuries already, well done Nic Hanekom and Warren Davies. What is pleasing to see is the juniors now playing a significant role in the adult teams. Fourteen year old Mat Y (yes him again) shared an 82 run partnership with Nic Hanekom in a recent match.

For those that haven’t seen the new clubhouse please pop along on Friday night and have a look round, it is looking magnificent.
