Lee Common SchoolBy Arabella Norton At the end of April the children greatly enjoyed a morning workshop given by a Caribbean steel band. This was certainly a wonderful insight into a the music originating from a country and culture very different from the children’s normal experience and all greatly benefited from it. The year 2 children had another cultural treat in store as later that week they were taken down to Great Missenden School to see a performance of Bugsy Malone. The week then ended with the traditional May Day festivities.
This year’s May Queen was Grace and Master of Ceremonies was Robert.
Mrs Dean had certainly been training the dancers well and they all performed
the most complicated routines around the Maypole with no wrong steps in
sight. Mrs Dean was presented with some flowers by Mrs Lawes, the Head,
to thank her for all her hard work and dedication in coming into the school
once a week since February to rehearse with the children. Don’t worry if
you were unable to come on the day to watch, as the children will be performing
again at the church fête on Saturday 20th June.At the time of writing there are a couple of other events due to take place in May that are generating great excitement. Sunday 10th May is the traditional bluebell walk and BBQ, organized by the LCSA, to raise money for the school. The annual school trip follows this on Monday. This year we are going to Windsor Castle and a report will be in next month’s edition. In addition to the weekly assemblies, which are taken by the Revd David Burgess, the children also enjoy assemblies taken by the Methodist Minister, the Revd Nigel Coke-Wood and later this month the Community Police Officers will also be coming in to take an assembly. On a previous occasion they put handcuffs on Mrs Lawes, to the children’s great amusement, so all are looking forward to what will happen this time. Turning to sport, this summer term the coaches from the Great Missenden Lawn Tennis Club are coming to give tennis lessons to the Year 1 in one of their PE lessons. The Year 1 children are also enjoying a multi-skills course that involves different ball skills and fun physical activities. This is being taught by Mr Stuart Lindsey from Holmer Green School and takes place once a week over lunchtime. |
