The Lee W.I.By Shelagh Illing We met as usual in the Parish Hall on the 12th May. Our President Mrs June Lock opened the meeting. Various business items were discussed and matters of interest in the Buckinghamshire County Newsletter. Our Treasurer Mrs June Pearce said that although our finances were reasonably healthy we would need at least one fund raising event apart from our usual stall at the Lee Flower Show. The President then hoped that members would make a special effort to provide preserves, cakes etc. for the stall. The resolution chosen for the National Federation AGM in June was read out: “SOS for honey bees”. Honey bees play a vital role in the pollination of food crops and in our environment. In view of concerns about the decline in the UK honeybee population, this meeting urges HM Government to increase funding into bee health. The members agreed by a show of hands that it should go forward. Mr Peter Smith from the Mid-Bucks Beekeepers Association gave us a most interesting and fascinating talk confirming that bees are under threat from a virulent mite. The next meeting will be on the 9th June. The speaker will be Mr Graham Laurie MVO on ‘Roald Dahl’s War’. Visitors welcome. |
