Red-letter day for Parish shopBy Viv Robins, Clerk to The Lee Parish Council Good news! The Royal Mail has now officially agreed to transfer the pillar box from the Old Post Office to the Shop @ The Lee and replace it with a pedestal box. Even better news: they have very kindly agreed to donate the pedestal box because they view it as a ‘community project’. Therefore neither the Shop nor the Parish Council – nor any other philanthropically-inclined soul – will need to stump up the £400 this was going to cost! The go-ahead came after a site visit by Chris Messam of the Royal Mail last month. He wanted to satisfy himself about the logistics of the move and check the exact location of the pillar box on the Shop forecourt. The Royal Mail has quite a lot of other work afoot and the installation is not likely to happen until the autumn. But we will have a brand new post-box at the point where most people are likely to use it – and it is not going to cost the community a penny! |
