By Andy Devoy The season is now well underway and barring the odd rainy Friday and Saturday everybody is having a great time in and around the new clubhouse. The Friday evening junior sessions have been particularly well attended. I can’t emphasise what a wonderful social occasion it is, so if you are at a loose end on a Friday please pop up, I’m sure you will find a familiar face amongst the crowd. The older Colts sides have had a fantastic season thus far. The U10s are top of their league; the U11s are in the quarter final of the Knockout Cup; the U12s have won their league and are through to the County Cup semi final; the U13s are top of their league and the U15s are having their most successful season since they began playing together five long years ago. A big ‘well done’ and ‘thank you’ to all the managers and coaches and good luck for the rest of the season. And so on to the adults. The 1st XI are third in the Premier league, the 2nd XI are 5th in Division 3 and the Sunday side were hoping to register their first win in mid-June only for the rain to intervene with victory in sight. It won’t be long before the juniors start to form the majority of the adult sides and then thankfully a decent standard of adult cricket will return to The Lee (only joking guys). The clubhouse is now functioning well although not quite complete. The main room/bar is looking fantastic but there are still a few jobs to do to complete the rebuild. The building fund has run out agonisingly close to completion (everybody who has had an extension done on their house knows that is a familiar tale). We are embarking on a fund raising appeal to try and raise the few extra pounds we need to finish. If you would like to help out with a donation then please contact Jon Swain. And finally an apology to our neighbours for the (thankfully rare) incidents where cars parked around the club on Fridays have caused the odd irritation. We do all we can to ensure cars are parked sensibly, using cones and creating passing spaces, but we are at the mercy of people being sensible. |
