Lee Common SchoolBy Arabella Norton On the 11th May the whole school went on a trip to Windsor Castle. This was an ambitious undertaking but fortunately the same number who went came back again and everyone enjoyed themselves. You will have noticed less traffic on Oxford Street during ‘Walk to School Week’ when everyone parked further away than usual and walked/ scootered/ cycled to school. Sadly we had to say goodbye to our two student teachers from Brunel University who left us after their nine week placement ended. They will be greatly missed. On 9th June the children from Years 1 and 2 joined 3,000 other primary school children from all over the County at Adams Park in High Wycombe for a mammoth ‘Sing Praise Event’. It was a wonderful experience for all the children to be singing the same songs together. The Bishop of Buckingham led the event and the voice warm-up exercises were led by the Revd Rosie Harper from Great Missenden Church who was a former professional opera singer. The children all came in Mufti on the 12th June in exchange for a tombola prize for the church fête. The Maypole Dancers in particular are looking forward to showing off their prowess to the village at the fête. Next Friday the children are also going to be wearing Mufti in support of their teacher, Mrs Sandie Barton, who will be taking unpaid leave at the end of July to go to Africa to help establish a primary school there. Mrs Barton is looking for sponsorship to raise funds for this African school and if anyone would like to support her with this charitable work please contact the school office for further details. The children are greatly looking forward to hearing more about life in Africa when Mrs Barton returns to Lee Common School in September. |
