school Lee Common School
By Arabella Norton

This term the school welcomes back all the teachers and pupils after the summer holidays. A particularly warm welcome is given to the new pupils who have joined Reception. They all seem to have settled in very well.

This year’s organisation of the classes is as follows: Mrs Blasor is teaching Reception (13 pupils); Mrs Evans is teaching Year 1 (14 pupils) and Mrs Lawes and Mrs Barton share teaching Year 2 (24 pupils).

The theme for this term is Africa as Mrs Barton came back with lots of ideas and inspiring artefacts from her visit to an African primary school in the summer. There will be more about this soon.

The Governors held an open meeting on 17th September at 9:15 am for all parents of pupils at the school to explain more about the work of the Governors, to share the vision of the school and to listen to parents’ views. The school is also looking forward to receiving nominations for two new parent Governors to join the Governing Body.
The school is keen to train up its team of ‘Helper Readers’ and are organising meetings for this. Please consider if you have an hour or so to spare in the mornings each week and would like to volunteer to listen to children read. You will need to be CRB checked and receive further guidance from the school.

This is advance warning about the school Harvest Festival Service which takes place on Friday 2nd October at 9:30 am. The school needs shoe boxes in which to put the items to distribute around the Parish. If you have any spare, please could you donate them to the school? Also, if you are able to help Mrs Kenyon with the filling and distribution of the shoe boxes, please contact the school for further details. All offers of help are gratefully received.
