duet by moonlight Moonlit serenades
By Colin Sully

The duet ‘Come the wild, wild weather’ written by Noël Coward and sung by Anna Ramell and Simon Napier-Munn was just one of the highlights of an evening of song and music offered by The Lee Village Choir in the gardens of Oliver and Catherine Stewart-Liberty.

Fortunately, whilst the song title also described the weather the day before the event, the day itself turned into one of those glorious late summer evenings, with the full moon slowly appearing and adding to what was already a beautifully lit setting. Nevertheless there were one or two music sheets and perhaps a few notes that still took flight in the wind!

june lock The choir itself was in fine voice and choir-mistress Joy Lock presented a varied and challenging programme ranging from traditional folk songs to Offenbach and Gilbert and Sullivan. Other highlights included further solos from Anna and Simon and contributions from members of the Amersham Brass Band. Musical accompaniment was provided throughout by Bridget Harrison and Andrew Burnett calmly compèred the evening.

As the voices of the choir and the audience finally drifted off into the now chilling night, we were all most grateful for Oliver and Catherine’s invitation to “come indoors and warm yourselves”.

Wonderful entertainment, superb hospitality, fine company… and all on your door-step; what more could we ask for? Many thanks to all those who made this event possible.
