And the answer is…By Paul Viner The initial pleasure of being asked to attend The Lee Old Church Trust quiz night (surely, they know me well enough to know that my brain doesn’t function on Saturday evenings?) was followed rather too quickly by the shock that Jeremy Paxman or, even worse, John Humphries could be asking the questions: “come along young man, we must have an answer now!” Thankfully, neither of these denizens of quiz appeared, but a rather more charming trio of Tony Rigby, Mike Moran and Tony Kendrick masterminded the quiz evening at Ballinger Hall on 17th October. They were supported by Rowena Irving, who, with her helpers, organised a wonderful supper for all the contestants. Expectations were high as the participants, numbering some eighty plus doughty souls, gathered to pit their wits against each other and the masters of ceremony. After a spirited evening when we tackled subjects as diverse as contemporary music and audio sport, and in total some nine rounds of questions, the worthy winners were adjudged to be the Carleton-Smith team. It was the most wonderfully relaxed and enjoyable evening, and so well structured and organised that the next event will be in my diary! Now, where did I put that encyclopaedia? |
