Lee Common School By Arabella Norton The month began with ‘Walk to School Week.’ This means children are encouraged to walk, bike or scooter all or part of the way to school. Everyone participated and greatly enjoyed doing so, even though they had to get up earlier to factor in the extra time allowed. By doing this we are contributing to the County Travel Plan and it is also part of our Healthy Schools Accreditation. We hope that you appreciate the decrease in vehicle traffic on Oxford Street during this period. Fortunately the weather was also good for the Year 1 and 2 children when they walked up to The Lee to visit both the churches. They were able to look around the buildings in great detail and ask the Revd Burgess lots of questions. Many thanks must go to the other adults helping, especially Mrs Gurney and Mr and Mrs Whittow who helped make this a very successful trip. At the time of writing the school is working towards achieving a Primary Science Quality Mark and as part of this the school will be having a Science Day on 16th November. The children are greatly looking forward to the visit of the Hands Up Theatre Company who will bring puppets, toys, songs and magic to support the topics of ‘Pushes and Pulls’ and ‘Forces and Movement’. In addition to their everyday learning the children have also started rehearsals for the Christmas Play. This will be performed for the Senior Citizens on Tuesday 8th December at 10:30am and for parents on Wednesday 9th, Friday 11th and Monday 14th December at 9:30am. Please apply to the school office for tickets (Telephone 837267). For the first time this year the school will be walking to the Church for the Christmas Carol Concert on Wednesday 16th December at 9:30am. The main date for your diary which the school would love the whole village to attend is the Christmas Fair on Saturday 5th December. There will be a host of lovely stalls, mulled wine and mince pies and lots of fun activities as well as a magician and Santa’s Grotto. Rachel Rolfe and Victoria Sandy are this years’ Joint Chair of the LCSA and they promise that this will be a superb event for everyone to enjoy. Please do come and support us. |
