Leeside Nursery
By Suzanne Beaney Houses and autumn are our topics for this term; the children have decorated cardboard houses for the three little pigs, one decorated with straw, one with sticks and the third with sandpaper bricks. We have taken the children for a walk in the woods and looked at all the different houses in the local area, counting the chimneys and looking at different windows etc. For their topic book they have been colouring, cutting and sticking a house, an igloo, a snail shell, a spiders web, a squirrel’s drey, migrating birds, bark and leaf rubbings, acorns, conkers and hedgehogs hibernating. Craft-wise: more sticking with rooms in a house, a hedgehog made with hand prints, a pinecone mouse, a canal boat and a house sewing card, then on to various Christmas crafts (how they love the glitter). We celebrated Diwali making ‘Diva’ lights out of self-hardening clay, put in night lights and decorated them with jewels. We also had Indian music and food. On Monday afternoons we have taken advantage of the lovely September sunshine and walked the children to the recreation ground where they have enjoyed the swings and the adventure playground. Teresa has completed her level 2 NVQ and Kay her level 4. Congratulations to both of them, they are both going on to the next step. Pippa our new recruit has started her level 2. The children have started to practise songs for our Nativity play which they will be performing to parents on the Thursday before we break up. |
