By Jonathan Batten

When writing this two weeks before publication the Editor needs a crystal ball in order to be able to say anything which is pertinent. For instance:

Is it still snowing?  - It could be.
Are Geoff and Sally and the rest of the team at the shop still serving the local populace?  - I think so.
Is the dairy produce still being delivered by Martin the milkman? - I think so.
Is the Royal Mail still being delivered by Frank the postman? - I think so.
Has Flash called a snap poll? – I think not...

If we are in the grip of election fever – or boredom – then I’ve got it wrong but nevertheless the stalwart figures who have been tested during the weeks before and after Christmas have come through the snow ‘events’ – as they are now called – with flying colours and all of us who rely on them are most grateful.

We were able to say (with apologies to Sammy Cahn):

“Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the shop is so delightful,
And since we’ve a place to go,
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!”

It’s sometimes difficult to remember what happened at the end of last year but we have the reviews of those events and some tasters for the year to come.

Thank you to all who have sent us photographs of our village in the snow – you will see some of these in this edition but space is tight so take a look at the website.

Last but not least many congratulations to Bill Baxter for his mention in the New Year’s Honours list.

Next month’s Editor will be Viv Robins. Please send your contributions to theleenewsletter@googlemail.com or hard copy to Viv at Crocketts, Lee Common by 12th March.
