It is sad to report that, since last July, we have not been able to provide Beaver Scouting in our Group. This terrifically successful section, for youngsters aged 6 – 8 years, became defunct as no adults were prepared to form a leadership team in September. Consequently, a variety of entertaining activities on offer for our local ‘junior scouts’ cannot take place. As a result we have had to turn away 24 enrolled boys and a large number on our waiting list.
Of concern is the eventual impact this loss will have on the viability of the other two sections (Cubs and Scouts). Our subscription income has reduced by a third and, without guaranteed numbers from an active Colony, progression through the sections may be reduced. The Group has an enviable reputation in the District and has not had to face this situation at any time in its history.
