Enter a garden designer’s worldBy The Lee Old Church Trust Why spend another Friday night watching Gardener’s World, when you can get a personal insight into a garden designer’s world? If you love gardening and pinching ideas from the experts, or just feel in the need for a bit of inspiration, then block out the evening of Friday 14th May in your diary. Because that’s when talented garden designer, Julie Toll, will be coming to The Lee Old Church to talk about her work and ideas. Julie is a Fellow of the Society of Garden Designers and a past Chairman. She has run her own Garden design practice since 1982 and co-presented the BBC2 series ‘Gardens by Design’. But Julie’s list of achievements doesn’t stop there. She has won seven Gold Medals, one Silver Gilt and two Silver Medals at the Chelsea Flower Show and in 1993 her Seaside Garden won both a Gold and the coveted Fiskar’s Sword of Excellence – the award for the very best garden in the Show. In 1997 she created her first garden at the Hampton Court Flower Show, ‘A Garden Richer in Wildlife’ which received both a Gold Medal and the Tudor Rose for the best water garden. Wondering what horticultural delights Julie’s got in store for us? Well, she’ll begin by telling us a bit about how she started out as a garden designer and you’ll also discover what inspires her and how her love of nature influences her designs. Introduction over, Julie will be taking us through the way she designs and creates different types of gardens and showing us examples of her work. You’ll also hear about some of the projects she has undertaken in the Caribbean and the challenges of creating gardens on tropical islands. Plus, as a special treat for those planning a trip to the Chelsea Flower Show or perhaps just looking forward to settling down in front of the television to watch the coverage in a few weeks time, she’ll also be letting us in on some of the secrets of creating a winning Show Garden. If you would like to join us for a bit of garden inspiration, Julie will be appearing at The Lee Old Church at 8 pm on Friday 14th May. Tickets are just £15 each, available in advance from Pam Garner on 837501 or Jilly Carleton-Smith on 837205 and include wine and canapés, kindly sponsored by Kingshill Cars of Great Missenden. |
