The Lee Flower Show: 17th July 2010By Jonathan Batten By the time you read this, or soon after, you will receive your copy of the schedule for this year’s show: something completely different from the election manifestos that you’ve been studying. Do please take the time to read it through to see which classes you or your family can enter. How about vegetables, fruit or cultivated flowers? If you like pot plants, but haven’t already got a prize specimen, then remember the last date you can purchase one is 19th May. Come on you budding flower arrangers, the floral art class is there for the taking! You may remember I mentioned ‘The Seasons’ theme last month. Cookery classes are open to all – you don’t have to have appeared on ‘Masterchef’ to win! Handicrafts give scope for all types of skills and the photographic subjects are a challenge that should be taken up by all wannabe paparazzi. Please encourage your children to join in – there are classes for all ages and new classes for Rainbows, Brownies and Cubs. Let them do the exhibits themselves – some overzealous parents have been known to contribute just a little too much but the judges are shrewd enough to know... What does this all add up to on the day? A sense of achievement in honest competition and, of course, points. What do points mean? Points mean prizes and particular collections of the most points mean silverware! Get out your dancing shoes By Pippa Hart Please also make sure that you are keeping your diaries clear and getting your tables together for the Flower Show Dance on Saturday 17th July when, with a sleight of hand (and a few faithful helpers!), we transform the flower show marquee into a party venue in a matter of two hours. MOJO are back by popular demand and tickets will go on sale, priced £18 per person, from Saturday 5th June and will be available from the Village Shop, from Pippa Hart (837340) and from Hayley Farrelly (837068). |
