By Bing BranfieldThe Lee WI met at the Parish Hall on 13th April. Mr Cuming gave us at talk entitled ‘Out of the Blue’ about his days in the Police Force. Prior to joining the police, as a schoolboy, he lived in Lee Common. Lucy Bignell, for many years a teacher there, gave him a reference when he wanted to join the police. He could remember PC Fisher, our village policeman. He started on £7 10s a week, but did have a helmet, truncheon and whistle! He also mentioned that his father presented the clock in the village hall to the Youth Club. The Lee WI is having a Ploughman’s Lunch at The Parish Hall at 12:30 pm on 2nd June. Please come and join us; tickets £6 available from June Pearce 785191. |
