| Clerk’s corner By Viv Robins, Clerk to The Lee Parish Council By the time you read this we will have stepped up the campaign against HS2 with our own public meeting in The Lee. But the Parish Council is hoping to (literally) go further by organising a trip to one of the villages in Kent which were badly affected by the route now known as HS1 – the Channel Tunnel Rail link. The idea is to find a village with a similar size and rural location to our own and see how residents cope with proximity to the line and whether they can give us any advice on how to fight the campaign and hopefully obtain concessions to mitigate the noise and/or the visual impact. If enough people are interested we could hire a mini-bus. Watch this space for further details. Water trough required Users of the Oxford St. Allotments – and we have a record number of them these days – may have noticed that a month or so back we put in an additional water supply at the Barn Lea end, saving tenants on that side the schlep to and from the tank by the central footpath. This operation was made the easier (and cheaper!) by the availability of a spare water trough, which was heroically lugged into place by Cllr Usborne. As there have now been requests for a similar water supply at the Larch Cottage end we thought we would try and find out whether anyone else had an unwanted water trough lying around, as you do. If so please contact me on 837278. Do you want to kick a ball? Now the grass-growing season is back we have resumed the mowing of the playing field area. You may remember that part of it was given a closer cut last year to try and create an area suitable for football. We don’t really have much anecdotal evidence as to how much it was used for this purpose, but if you have taken advantage of it, or are likely to do so this summer, please let us know. Otherwise we will save the Parish some money and return to previous mowing habits! |
