Mardi Gras party of the year

By Ruth Barber, Community Fundraising Manager at Iain Rennie Hospice at Home

On Saturday 19th June more than 1,000 women – along with 100 lucky men – will set off at midnight for Iain Rennie Hospice at Home’s (IRHH) annual Goodnight Walk. The sponsored walkers will attempt to raise more than £120,000 to help people with cancer and life-threatening illness across the Chilterns area of Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. This year’s Goodnight Walk has a Mardi Gras theme with a prize for the best dressed entrant.
Marshals will accompany walkers on the eight mile circular route around Amersham and Little Chalfont which begins at Amersham Polish Club. There will be refreshment points and portaloos and all participants will receive a well-earned hot breakfast at the finish line.

Last year’s event was a great success: people of all ages took part and there was a real camaraderie and a brilliant atmosphere. We’re hoping this year will be even better and that we can top last year’s fundraising total of £120,000. The Goodnight Walk is a great way to get fit and raise money; it’s going to be the Mardi Gras party of the year!

The Goodnight Walk is one of IRHH’s key fundraising events: the charity needs £3 million each year to help the 1,000 patients and their families it supports and only 12 per cent of its funding comes from the Government.
It costs £15 to enter the event and all participants will receive a T-shirt, water along the route and breakfast. Further details about the event and how to enter can be found at www.gnwalk.com or contact: Ruth Barber, Community Fundraising Manager, The Iain Rennie Hospice At Home; telephone: 01442 890222 Email: rbarber@irhh.org
