| Peace and quiet By Reina Free Such a wonderful unexpected surprise. Blue skies without any criss-crossing of vapour trails and no roar of aircraft heading towards Heathrow. Just the singing of the birds in the trees and hedgerows, and the larks in the sky so high it is hard to see them, only to hear them. Busy bumble bees zoom zooming over the fresh hawthorn blossom. So what possibly brought about this rare stillness? We were told it was due to the sudden eruption of a small volcano in far away Iceland spewing up in the atmosphere dust, ash and small particles of ice. It was decided to stop planes from flying to prevent the jet engines becoming clogged up and stalling in mid air. Thousands of people all over the world could not travel causing disruption, great inconvenience and massive expense. How very frail and helpless is mankind against the forces of nature. Lengthy discussions about climate change and expensive conferences by heads of state from all over the world do not provide an answer. Many people hardly spare a thought for God. Maybe now is the time to think and rethink. |
