Lee Common SchoolBy Arabella Norton The LCSA has been very active and many people are owed many thanks for working extremely hard. To begin with, huge thanks must go to Will van Rest (of ITV fame and dad to two Lee Common pupils) for writing and presenting the most fantastic quiz for the LCSA Quiz Evening. This was the work of a true professional and everyone who came really enjoyed themselves. Writing as someone who normally avoids quiz evenings due to finding them tedious in the extreme, this was something different. It was fast moving, varied and very entertaining and above all raised lots of money for the school – approximately £1,300. The next day the Lee Common parents were again hard at work having fun and raising money for the school with the Annual Bluebell Walk and BBQ. Luckily the weather was kind and the forecast downpour didn’t happen until after all the festivities had finished. Thank you to everyone who came and supported these events. The money raised is going towards new playground equipment. If you have visited the school recently you will have noticed the new cycle shelter by the school entrance, so that Claire Chilcot and other cyclists to the school can now keep their bikes secure and dry. This is thanks to Mrs Barton and other willing parents who helped us succeed with the Travel Plan Initiative which is trying to reduce car use to school. The children were lucky to have a visit from the ‘Perform 4 Schools’ Theatre group who came to run a ‘Fairytales and Fables’ workshop to tie in with the work that the children have been doing in literacy. This was greatly enjoyed by all. The school is also proud to report that it is one of the few primary schools in the County to receive the prestigious Primary Science Quality Mark. Again, huge thanks must go to Mrs Barton in her role as Science Co-ordinator for submitting all the evidence to the judges for this. |
