The Lee Flower Show - 17th July 2010By Jonathan Batten The third Saturday in July is almost upon us, so that means the biggest and best annual village event is about to happen. The Flower Show has been with us for as long as anyone living can remember – that’s quite an achievement in an ever changing world. Our job is to maintain that tradition so that it continues as a joyous afternoon of fun and healthy competition for generations to come. So it’s the final run down before the day – the preparation has all been done: the posters are up, the flags will go up, the marquee is to be erected, the generator to be delivered, the tables and chairs to be arranged, the judges are preparing to judge, the side shows to be set up, the teas to be made, the animals and magician to be entertaining, the bands to be playing, the dancers to be dancing, the dogs to be showing and the sun to be shining... What, of course, is essential to all this is your participation – during the next few weeks please find those schedules. Dust off your vegetables, flowers and pot plants. Check out the handicrafts, cookery and photography classes. Encourage your children to look at what they can do. Let’s make this the year when everyone in the village enters at least one class – don’t be afraid, if you are unsure as to what to do then call Ann Ash on the helpline 837550. Some of you may have noticed that the carrot cake recipe has been printed slightly strangely in the schedule, but don’t worry, call Ann for a fair copy. What else can you do to join in? We can always use an extra pair of hands to help with some small task on the day – if you’re willing and able then do please let me know. And afterwards… The Lee Flower Show Dance It’s an integral part of the day: a spectacular night of music and dancing and frivolity. Some tickets may still be available – order forms are at the Shop @ The Lee or call Pippa Hart 837340. |
