Your letters
To the Editor We would really like you to sign our petition to get the speed limit in Swan Bottom reduced to 30 mph because recently our cat (Harry Potter) got run down and killed by a speeding car just outside the front of our house. This road has become very dangerous for children, adults and animals because people treat it as a cut through between Chesham, Wendover and Aylesbury. Many children including ourselves catch a bus at the crossroads but it isso very dangerous to get there because impatient drivers going between 50 and 60 mph have no consideration for us pedestrians. It has become a race track on occasions and, apart from the pets that have died, this is an accident waiting to happen. Kings Ash has successfully petitioned for a similar reduction so we hope you will help us make the same thing happen for Swan Bottom. To those of you that have signed our petition already, thank you, and for those of you who have not yet had the chance please go to the Lee Shop, The Cock and Rabbit or The Old Swan Pub where they have a copy of the petition which you can sign. Thank you for your help. Oliver and Georgina Napier-Munn(aged 12 and 11) Swan Bottom Marathon Man To the Editor I have decided, rather unwittingly, to have a go at running the London Marathon on 17th April next year. Training has already begun and you will no doubt see me jogging in the upcoming months around The Lee, Ballinger and South Heath. Applying for a Golden Bond Place and being a student has led to a mix of fortunes for my place; I am guaranteed to run yet have to raise a minimum of £2,000 for the benefit of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, Saunderton. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a registered charity that selects and trains dogs to respond to specific sounds which hearing people often take for granted. Anybody who has attempted something like this will understand the huge mental and physical pressures it brings and I will gladly accept any advice of support anyone has to offer to me. All donations are welcome at http://www.justgiving.com/Peter-Gould and I can also be found on Facebook at http://tinyurl.com/pgould Peter Gould Ballinger HS2 and the Telegraph To the Editor If you take the Daily Telegraph, you will have noticed that there has not been a single letter of protest at HS2 printed on the letters page. I asked a friend to write a letter – bearing in mind how articulate he is and well known in literary circles. His letter was not published either. All this is very strange, as I would guess that many people in this and other affected areas take the Telegraph. Are we looking at vested interests do you think? The Times has printed letters on several days. Susan Allison The Lee Mexico To the Editor Thank you very much to all those who have continued to support me over the course of my voluntary work in Mexico. I was so grateful for the support and generosity at the recent joint service where almost £250 was raised for the two projects I was involved with. I know that the workers and children will benefit greatly from this donation and it was lovely to see so many people interested in the charities. Many thanks again. Emma Burgess The Lee |
