By Reina Free July was the month of birthdays of four well-known members of our hilltop community. It started with the birthday of Mr Bill Baxter C.B.E., of Pipers, The Lee. Caterer to the rich and famous, but also practically involved in various charities. Mr Bernard Tompkins of Little King’s Ash Farm. Master builder. Cattle breeder. Still involved with the local scouts. Mrs Betty Fowler, a highly professional district nurse and midwife (now retired, living at Rayners, Hyde Heath). Remembered by many, including myself, with deep-felt gratitude. Mr John Glanfield of The Lee, architect whose professional advice is still often called upon. Highly appreciated. This month it will be the birthday of Leslie Robins of Crocketts Lane, Lee Common, who takes care of the accounts at the Parish Shop. I personally have the pleasure and privilege to know each one and thank them for contributing to the overall quality of my life with their affection and friendship. Each and every day I thank God for being part of our own hilltop community and living in such a beautiful part of Buckinghamshire. |
