morris men Fête accompli
By Catherine Larmour

The fête’s well and truly over for this year. June is a distant memory. But I hope it’s not too late to do two things – to tell you how much money we raised for the Church and to thank you for your great efforts in raising it.

Yet again the fête was a great financial success, with profits of £6,126, plus a very generous donation of £1,000 from Mrs Stewart-Liberty. It was an excellent total, especially as – let’s face it – it wasn’t the balmiest of afternoons, and we always have to compete with other midsummer engagements and entertainments.

tog of war But the delights of the fête were just too tempting for many, and there was a great crowd on the Green enjoying such sights as the Lee Common School maypole dancing, the Aldbury Morris men, and (less delicately, and with a lot more perspiration) the tug-o-war: bravo to The Swan team, who were just too much for The Bell on this occasion. We have a feeling this one’s going to run and run...

To put on such an event requires a lot of hard work from a lot of people, and so it’s a great big thank you to all those who helped before, during and after the fête. To the sign/ gazebo putter-uppers, the lorry gang, the raffle and tombola crew, the stall setter-uppers and helpers, the tea and cake makers, the washer-uppers, to everyone,

horse 7 cart THANK YOU. It’s all really appreciated, and a vital part of the Church’s fund-raising.
