Flower Show bears fruit
By Jonathan Batten

exhibit Think back to the 17th July – we had a peaceful summer’s afternoon at the Flower Show and a wild night at the dance afterwards; a wonderful village event that has stood the test of time. What more could you wish for in a mad world!

I could go on about all the fantastic exhibits and side shows, the unbelievable magician and the teas, the extraordinary animals and the races, the incredible dancing girls and the dog show but most of you who are reading this were no doubt there so you know what it was all about.

Without the effort put in by so many people the Flower Show and the dance would not happen – thank you to all of you who played a part.

exhibits Let us not forget that the core business of the Flower Show is the fun of putting in your exhibits.

The vegetables, fruit and flowers that you lovingly nurture through the months of uncertain weather conditions; the slaving over the hot stove to produce the culinary delights of the cookery classes; the hours spent on handicrafts and photographs and, of course, the encouragement offered to our children to join in the friendly competition.
A round of applause to all of you who entered – participation is one of the most important aspects of the Flower Show and without the exhibits where would we be?

prizes Let’s all resolve to participate more next year!
A major part of the funds raised from the day is needed to pay for the substantial costs of the marquee and other equipment but the success of this year’s show and the dance means that we will have a small surplus.

We would like to be able to donate this to some worthy local cause. Do please let me, or any committee member, know if you have any ideas as to where the money could be most beneficially employed.
