By Viv Robins With summer about to give way to autumn there’s a timely reminder of the halcyon days of The Lee Fête and Flower Show with our traditional September supplement (tho’ for only the second time in colour!). Elsewhere the huge volume of material following the non-appearance of the Newsletter in August has meant that I’ve had to apply the editor’s metaphorical blue pencil with more than the usual ruthlessness, and apologies also to those whose contributions have had to be held over altogether. Along with the regular reports from Church, school, County Hall and cricket team and promise of such future delights as the Life in Flowers festival and the Old Church Trust wine-tasting, you will find an affecting account of the dedication of the new War Cemetery at Fromelles together with articles on the latest developments over HS2 which now sadly look like becoming a staple feature of the Newsletter – until the government sees sense and pulls the plug on the whole ludicrously unaffordable venture, that is. (As my Dad always says, who wants to get to Birmingham any sooner anyway?) Please send contributions for next month via e-mail to theleenewsletter@googlemail.com , or if in hard copy to the Editor Peter Archer at Red Lion House, Red Lion Hill, by the 12th September please. |
