By Mike Senior Thanks to our current Parish Clerk Viv Robins I have been able to read through the official letters sent by a Mr Piddington who was The-Lee Parish Clerk in the early 1920s. It is an interesting commentary on how man has progressed over the past 90 years, as you will gather from the following extracts: 5th March 1921: To the Amersham R.D.C. “...will you kindly let me have a reply to my letter of 1 Nov 1920 re – bad state of roads in Herewig lane.”There are many more of Mr Piddington’s letters in the same vein. A final extract confirms that civilisation continues to progress: 24th June 1921: To the Ministry of Health, London. “...will you kindly send me Memorandum 114/X and form X58 as stated in Memo 179/X as early as possible.”It’s good to think that these days we are spared all of the above. Things are getting better and better all the time. |
